The 3M™ flap wheel type 83 747D measures 2" x 1" x 1/4" and features an 80 grit ceramic mixed ceramic abrasive. Each flap is covered with a ceramic abrasive mix composed of aluminum oxide blended with 3M ceramic grain, designed using a proprietary process to enhance toughness and hardness. This blend offers a harder, longer-lasting abrasive ideal for light to moderate stock removal, cutting fast while handling intense heat and stress applications. The ceramic/aluminum oxide blend surpasses standard aluminum oxide abrasives in cut rate and durability, making it suitable for surface preparation. The abrasive mix is bonded to a flexible X-weight cotton backing through a resin bond specially formulated to resist thermal and chemical deterioration during high-speed sanding. This bond is very hard, allowing faster cuts and a higher cut rate, and includes a grinding aid for cooler running on stainless steel. The cotton backing provides a tough yet flexible surface that conforms to workpieces, with self-cutting flaps that expose fresh abrasive material throughout the wheel's life for consistent sanding. This flap wheel is designed for flange or spindle-mounted constructions with either general-purpose aluminum oxide or 3M ceramic aluminum oxide blend abrasive grains. Its primary applications include blending, descaling, refining, and setting the grain, primarily used in metal fabrication industries.
