The 3M™ Flap Wheel 741A measures 6" x 2" x 1" and features an 80 grit ceramic mixed abrasive composed of a proprietary blend of aluminum oxide and 3M ceramic grain, designed to enhance toughness and hardness. This ceramic/aluminum oxide blend offers a harder, longer-lasting abrasive that excels in light to moderate stock removal and surface preparation, outperforming standard aluminum oxide abrasives in cut-rate and durability. The abrasive mix is attached to an X-weight polyester/cotton backing using a resin bond specifically formulated to resist thermal and chemical deterioration during high-speed sanding, enabling faster cuts and a higher cut rate. The flexible backing allows the wheel to conform to various workpieces, while self-cutting flaps maintain consistent sanding performance by exposing fresh abrasive material throughout the wheel's life. The flap wheel is suitable for light grinding, blending, graining, and scale removal on a variety of metals, and is available in flange and spindle mounted constructions with either general-purpose aluminum oxide or high-performance 3M ceramic aluminum oxide blend abrasive grains. Applications include blending, descaling, refining, and setting the grain, primarily in metal fabrication industries.
