The 3M™ flap wheel 741A measures 6" x 1" x 1" and features 80 grit ceramic mixed ceramic abrasive. Each flap is covered with a ceramic abrasive mix combining aluminum oxide and 3M ceramic grain, designed to enhance toughness and hardness for a harder, longer-lasting abrasive suitable for light to moderate stock removal. This ceramic/aluminum oxide blend provides faster cuts, higher cut rates, and greater durability compared to aluminum oxide abrasives, making it ideal for surface preparation and moderate stock removal. The abrasive mix is attached to a flexible backing with a resin bond resistant to thermal and chemical deterioration encountered during high-speed sanding; this hard bond facilitates faster cuts. Each flap uses an X-weight polyester/cotton backing, offering flexibility and durability by bending to fit any workpiece. The flaps are self-cutting, exposing new abrasive material during use, ensuring consistent sanding throughout the wheel's life. The flap wheel is designed for light grinding, blending, graining, and scale removal on various metals and is available in flange mounted and spindle mounted constructions. It includes general purpose aluminum oxide or the high-performing 3M ceramic aluminum oxide blend abrasive grain. Typical applications include blending, descaling, refining, and setting the grain, serving industries such as metal fabrication.
