The 3M™ flap wheel type 84 747D measures 2" x 1/2" x 1/4-20 and features a 60 grit ceramic mixed abrasive comprised of a proprietary blend of aluminum oxide and 3M ceramic grain designed to enhance toughness and hardness for increased performance. This ceramic/aluminum oxide blend provides faster cutting, greater durability, and is well-suited for light to moderate stock removal, surface preparation, and handling intense heat and stress applications. The abrasive mix is bonded to a flexible X-weight cotton backing using a resin bond engineered to resist thermal and chemical deterioration during high-speed sanding, enabling faster cuts and a higher cut rate. The flap wheel includes a grinding aid for cooler operation on stainless steel, and the self-cutting flaps expose fresh abrasive material as they wear to maintain consistent surface sanding throughout the wheel’s life. This high-quality construction makes the wheel ideal for light grinding, blending, graining, and scale removal on various metals. The flap wheel is available in flange or spindle mounted constructions with abrasives tailored for general-purpose aluminum oxide or high-performance 3M ceramic aluminum oxide blends, commonly used in metal fabrication industries for applications such as blending, descaling, refining, and grain setting.
