The 3M™ flap wheel 741A measures 6" x 1" x 1" and features 60 grit ceramic abrasive made from a mixed ceramic abrasive blend of aluminum oxide and 3M ceramic grain, designed through a proprietary process to enhance toughness and hardness for improved performance. This ceramic/aluminum oxide blend surpasses traditional aluminum oxide abrasives in cut-rate and durability, making it suitable for light to moderate stock removal and surface preparation by cutting fast and handling intense heat and stress. The abrasive mix is attached to a flexible backing with a resin bond engineered to resist thermal and chemical deterioration during high-speed sanding, allowing for faster cuts and higher cut rates. Each flap uses an X-weight polyester/cotton backing, providing a tough yet flexible surface that conforms to workpieces, with flaps that self-cut to expose fresh abrasive material for consistent sanding throughout the wheel's life. The flap wheel design supports light grinding, blending, graining, and scale removal on various metals, featuring a load-resistant design and availability in both flange mounted and spindle mounted constructions with general purpose aluminum oxide or high-performing ceramic aluminum oxide abrasive grains. Typical applications include blending, descaling, refining, and setting the grain, commonly used in metal fabrication industries.
