The 3M™ Flap Wheel 741A measures 6" x 1" x 1" and features a 50 grit ceramic mixed ceramic abrasive. Each flap is covered with a proprietary ceramic abrasive mix designed to enhance toughness and hardness, incorporating aluminum oxide blended with 3M ceramic grain for increased performance and longevity. This robust construction is ideal for light to moderate stock removal, with ceramic abrasives engineered to cut rapidly and withstand intense heat and stress applications. The ceramic/aluminum oxide blend outperforms traditional aluminum oxide abrasives in cut rate and durability, making the flap wheel a superior choice for moderate stock removal and surface preparation. The abrasive mix is bonded to a flexible backing using a resin bond that resists thermal and chemical deterioration during high-speed sanding, while the X-weight polyester/cotton backing provides a tough yet flexible surface. The self-cutting flaps consistently expose new abrasive material, ensuring consistent sanding throughout the wheel's life. The flap wheel design is suitable for light grinding, blending, graining, and scale removal across various metals and is available in both flange mounted and spindle mounted constructions.
