The 3M™ flap wheel type 83 747D measures 1-1/2" x 1" x 1/4" and features 60 grit ceramic mixed abrasive. Each flap is covered with a ceramic abrasive mix combining aluminum oxide and 3M ceramic grain, designed for enhanced toughness and hardness to provide a harder, longer-lasting abrasive ideal for light to moderate stock removal and surface preparation. The ceramic/aluminum oxide blend offers faster cutting and greater durability than aluminum oxide abrasives, suitable for applications involving intense heat and stress. The abrasive is bonded to a flexible X-weight cotton backing using a specially designed resin bond that resists thermal and chemical deterioration during high-speed sanding and promotes faster cuts. The wheel includes a grinding aid for cooler running on stainless steel. The flexible backing conforms to workpieces, and as the wheel wears, self-cutting flaps expose fresh abrasive to ensure consistent sanding throughout the wheel’s lifespan. These coated abrasive flap wheels are suitable for light grinding, blending, graining, and scale removal on various metals and are available in flange or spindle mounted versions.
