The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ Clean and Strip Unitized Wheel measures 1" x 1" x 3/16" and features an extra coarse grade silicon carbide abrasive mineral embedded in a hard, open-web synthetic fiber construction designed for aggressive coating removal, cleaning welds, and removing rust, paint, and coatings. The unitized wheel is built with a dense, durable, layered construction at a hard 7 density with low conformability, optimized for use with portable tools and die grinders to access tight or confined areas. Its extra coarse silicon carbide mineral and tough synthetic web effectively remove scale, surface contaminants, paints, coatings, and weld discoloration or splatter, while resisting loading during use due to its open-web design, which also helps the wheel run cooler and maintain high performance by limiting clogging. The wheel is intended for low-pressure applications such as paint preparation and provides a superior finish despite a faster breakdown compared to aluminum oxide. Suitable applications include chrome stripping, cleaning, coating removal, paint stripping, rust removal, and slab cleaning across industries such as builders hardware, medical instruments, metal fabrication, metal implants, plumbing fixtures, and turbine engines.
