The 3M™ disc pad face plate is designed to back a same size fiber disc (sold separately) and provide the necessary support and force for various grinding applications. It is used in conjunction with a disc pad hub (sold separately), which attaches to a power tool, and is secured with a retainer nut (sold separately). This system allows for quick changes of the disc pad face plate without removing the hub, enabling operators to utilize a single tool for multiple tasks, ranging from heavy grinding to finishing workpieces. Some face plates feature ribbing on the bottom face, which enhances grinding pressure by concentrating force and increasing abrasive performance, thus prolonging disc life. The face plates are available in different densities: lighter density for lightweight applications and harder density for heavier tasks, ensuring optimal performance of the abrasive mineral. They come in four colors indicating density: red for extra hard, black for hard, gray for medium, and white for soft. This versatility makes them suitable for power tools, accessories, compounds, and specialties across various industries such as builders hardware, medical instruments, metal fabrication, metal implants, plating and polishing, plumbing fixtures, and turbine engines.
