Product Details
The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ Surface Conditioning Belt measures 1/2" x 18" and features silicon carbide SFN grit, designed for detailed tasks such as blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring edges, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and achieving straightline-brushed finishes on various metals. These durable belts effectively remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. Available in various widths and lengths, they fit a range of belt sanding tools for applications on wood and metal. Wide belts are intended for sanding and finishing large wood panels with wide belt sanders, medium-width belts suit edge or portable belt sanders for tasks like cabinet door sanding or blending, and narrow belts are used with file tools in metalworking to reach small areas or inside corners. The Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts are manufactured using either silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive minerals; silicon carbide is a synthetic, sharp mineral ideal for low-pressure applications such as paint preparation and finishing, while aluminum oxide is a hard, blocky mineral providing a high cut rate and long life. Although silicon carbide breaks down faster than aluminum oxide, it yields a finer finish. Belt sanders equipped with these belts provide rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on various surfaces and resist clogging due to the belt’s small groove design, which opens as it moves over drive wheels, maintaining sanding efficiency longer than sanding wheels or discs. These belts comply with industrial standards for safety and durability, and the product is backed by 3M’s warranty terms.
