The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 1/2" x 24" and features aluminum oxide abrasive mineral designed for use on cold rolled steel (CRS) grit. This durable belt is engineered for detailed work including blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring and deburring edges, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and achieving straight-line brushed finishes on a variety of metals. It effectively removes coarse grindlines, mill marks, and small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. The Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit most industrial belt sanders, including wide belt sanders for large wood panels, medium-width belts for edge or portable sanders suited to cabinet doors, and narrow belts for file tools accessing small areas or inside corners in metalworking. The belt sanding tools use either silicon carbide, a synthetic, sharp mineral commonly employed for low-pressure paint preparation and finishing that breaks down faster but produces finer finishes, or aluminum oxide, a hard, blocky mineral offering high cut rate and long life. Belt sanders provide rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing across surfaces with better clog resistance compared to sanding wheels and discs, due to the small grooves in the abrasive belt that open around the drive wheel.
