The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 2-3/4" x 15-1/2" and features a medium grit aluminum oxide abrasive mineral, designed to remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. These abrasive belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit a range of industrial belt sanding tools for applications on wood and metal. The belts are suitable for use on wide belt sanders for large wood panels, medium-width belts for edge or portable belt sanders on wood pieces such as cabinet doors, and narrow belts for metalworking file tools accessing small areas or inside corners. The aluminum oxide mineral is hard and blocky, providing a high cut-rate and long life, while silicon carbide, a synthetic sharp mineral option available, is intended for low-pressure applications like paint preparation and finishing but breaks down faster and produces a finer finish. Belt sanders equipped with these belts offer rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing without clogging due to small grooves that open as the belt moves over the drive wheel's arc. Typical applications include blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and creating a straightline brushed finish within the metalworking industry.
