The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 1" x 42" and features a medium grit aluminum oxide abrasive mineral, designed to remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. These abrasive belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools suitable for numerous applications on wood and metal. Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts are manufactured with a choice of silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasives; aluminum oxide is a hard, blocky mineral that provides a high cut rate and long life, while silicon carbide is a synthetic sharp mineral commonly used for low-pressure applications such as paint preparation and finishing, producing a finer finish but breaking down faster than aluminum oxide. Belt sanders equipped with these belts offer rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on multiple surfaces and avoid clogging during operation due to small grooves in the abrasive belt that open around the arc of the drive wheel. Applications include blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and straightline brushed finishes.
