The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ Surface Conditioning Belt 3" x 18" VFN grit aluminum oxide is designed for removing coarse grindlines, mill marks, and small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. These abrasive belts, available in various widths and lengths, are compatible with a wide range of industrial belt sanders, including wide belt sanders for large wood panels, medium-width belts for edge or portable sanders used on wood pieces like cabinet doors, and narrow belts for metalworking tasks in small areas or inside corners. The belt features aluminum oxide abrasive mineral, known for its hard, blocky structure that offers a high cut rate and long life. This contrasts with silicon carbide, another available option, which is sharper and suited for low-pressure applications but breaks down faster. Belt sanders using these belts provide rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on diverse surfaces without clogging due to the abrasive belt’s small grooves that open around the drive wheel arc. Typical applications include blending, corner blending, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, grain setting, stainless steel finishing, and achieving a straight-line brushed finish.
