The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 37 inches by 60 inches with an 80 grit Alumina Zirconium abrasive grain designed for increased cutting efficiency compared to aluminum oxide belts. It features a heavy, water-resistant polyester backing that withstands high-pressure applications and edge work, suitable for both wet and dry operations. The belt is recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for applications including dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. A grinding aid incorporated into the belt protects heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel, and cobalt alloys by reducing running temperatures. The abrasive is resin-bonded to the backing to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia fractures frequently to produce sharp points, enabling faster cut rates and is developed primarily for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. The belts come in various widths and lengths, compatible with a range of industrial belt sanding tools: wider belts are used with wide belt sanders for flat finishing or adding grain patterns; medium-width belts fit backstands or feed-thru style flat finishers for weld removal and finishing sheets or coils; narrow belts are suitable for backstands or file tools to access right-angle corners.
