The 3M™ cloth belt 577F measures 1/4" x 18" and features an alumina zirconia abrasive grain designed for increased cutting efficiency over aluminum oxide belts. It is backed with a heavy, water-resistant polyester backing that supports high-pressure applications and edge work, ensuring durability and suitability for both wet and dry operations. Recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys, this belt is ideal for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. A grinding aid on the belt reduces running temperatures to protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel, and cobalt. The abrasive grain is resin-bonded to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia frequently fractures to expose sharp points, delivering a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide and is developed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. The belts come in a variety of widths and lengths to fit a range of industrial belt sanding tools, with wider belts used on wide belt sanders for flat finishing metal sheets, medium-width belts for weld removal or finishing sheets/coils on backstands or feed-thru style finishers, and narrow belts for grinding and finishing in tight spaces such as right-angle corners. Typical applications include blending, coating removal, deburring, and high-pressure grinding, serving industries such as builders hardware, medical instruments, metal fabrication, metal implants, plating and polishing, plumbing fixtures, and turbine engines.
