The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 1/4" x 24" and features alumina zirconia abrasive grain designed for increased cutting efficiency compared to aluminum oxide belts. It has a heavy, water-resistant polyester backing that withstands high-pressure applications and edge work, supporting both wet and dry operations for long life. This belt is recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys, primarily for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. A grinding aid integrated into the belt reduces running temperatures to protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is resin bonded to the backing to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia abrasives frequently fracture to create sharp points, providing a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide, and are specifically developed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. The belts come in various widths and lengths to fit a broad range of industrial belt sanders, with wider belts suited for wide belt sanders for flat finishing and grain pattern application on stainless steel sheets, medium-width belts for backstands or feed-thru flat finishers, and narrow belts for backstands or file tools to access right-angle corners. Typical applications include blending, coating removal, deburring, and high-pressure grinding.
