The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 3-1/2" x 15-1/2" and features a 60 grit alumina zirconium abrasive suited for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt includes a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is resin-bonded to the cloth backing to ensure durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia is a synthetic mineral designed for heavy stock removal, producing sharp points for faster cutting compared to aluminum oxide. The belt is compatible with a variety of belt sanding tools across different industries, especially metal fabrication, offering applications such as setting the grain and achieving a straightline brushed finish. Various widths and lengths are available to fit industrial belt sanders, with wider belts used on wide belt sanders for flat finishing and smooth rough cut metal sheet edges, medium-width belts for backstand applications and feed-thru style flat finishing for sheets or coils, and narrow belts for backstands or file tools to access right-angle corners.
