3M™ cloth belt 577F measures 2" x 60" and has a grit rating of 120, utilizing alumina zirconium. This cloth belt is recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys, making it suitable for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. To protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys, the belt features a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures. The abrasive is firmly bonded to the backing with resin, ensuring durability under high heat and pressure. The alumina zirconia material is designed to fracture frequently, producing sharp points that deliver a faster cut-rate compared to aluminum oxide, making it ideal for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. Abrasive belts like this come in various widths and lengths, compatible with different belt sanding tools used across various metalworking applications. The wider belts are typically used with wide belt sanders for flat finishing, smoothing rough cut edges of metal sheets, or adding a grain pattern to stainless steel sheets.
