The 3M™ cloth belt 577F measures 36" x 75" with a 100 grit alumina zirconium abrasive grain designed for increased cutting efficiency compared to aluminum oxide belts. It features a heavy, water-resistant polyester backing that is durable enough to withstand high-pressure applications and edge work, supporting both wet and dry operations. The belt is recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. To protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys, the belt includes a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures. The alumina zirconia abrasive is firmly bonded to the backing with resin to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia grains frequently fracture to continually expose sharp points, providing a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide, and are developed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. Available in various widths and lengths, these belts fit a wide range of belt sanding tools used for metalworking applications; wider belts are used with wide belt sanders for flat finishing, medium-width belts for weld removal or coil finishing, and narrow belts for grinding corners and right-angle access. Typical applications include descaling, flat finishing, high-pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, plate grinding, sheet grinding, and slab grinding.
