The 3M™ cloth belt 577F measures 36" x 75" with a 120 grit alumina zirconium abrasive grain designed for increased cutting efficiency compared to aluminum oxide belts. It features a heavy, water-resistant polyester backing that withstands high-pressure applications and edge work, suitable for both wet and dry operations. This durable belt is recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. A grinding aid is incorporated to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is resin-bonded to the backing to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia is a synthetic mineral that fractures frequently to produce sharp points, delivering a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide, ideal for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. The belts come in various widths and lengths, fitting a variety of belt sanding tools for multiple metalworking applications. Wide belts are used on wide belt sanders for flat finishing and smoothing rough edges of metal sheets or adding grain patterns to stainless steel, medium-width belts are used on backstands or feed-thru flat finishers for weld removal and surface finishing, and narrow belts facilitate grinding and finishing in corner areas.
