The 3M™ cloth belt 577F measures 1-1/4" x 70" and features 24 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt incorporates a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures and protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is resin-bonded to the backing to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia is a synthetic mineral designed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding, continuously fracturing to produce sharp points and deliver a faster cut-rate than aluminum oxide. The abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths to fit a range of industrial belt sanders for metalworking applications; wider belts are suited for wide belt sanders used in flat finishing and smoothing rough cut edges or adding grain patterns to stainless steel sheets, medium-width belts are typically used on backstands for weld removal or feed-thru style finishers for finishing sheets or coils, and narrow belts are used on backstands or file tools for grinding and finishing in hard-to-reach areas like right-angle corners. Typical applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, flat finishing, gate removal, high-pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding.
