The 3M™ cloth belt 577F measures 2" x 60" with 24 grit alumina zirconium abrasive designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. It features a grinding aid that reduces running temperatures to protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is firmly bonded to the backing with resin to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia fractures frequently to continually produce sharp points, delivering a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide. This synthetic mineral is developed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. The cloth belts come in various widths and lengths to fit a variety of belt sanding tools used in metalworking applications. Wide belts are used on wide belt sanders for flat finishing and smoothing rough cut edges or adding grain patterns to stainless steel sheets. Medium-width belts are typically used on backstands for weld removal or feed-thru flat finishers for imparting finishes on sheets or coils, while narrow belts can be used on backstands for grinding and finishing or on file tools for accessing right-angle corners.
