The 3M™ cloth belt 577F 2" x 60" 36 grit alumina zirconium is designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt incorporates a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is firmly bonded to the backing with resin to ensure durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia, a synthetic mineral developed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding, fractures frequently to produce sharp points, delivering a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide. The abrasive belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit many industrial belt sanders, with wider belts used for flat finishing and grain pattern application, medium-width belts for weld removal and finishing sheets or coils, and narrow belts for grinding, finishing, and accessing right-angle corners. Applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, high-pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding.
