The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 3 inches by 132 inches and features 180 grit alumina zirconium abrasive. It is designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for applications such as dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt includes a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys like stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The alumina zirconia abrasive is a synthetic mineral that fractures frequently to produce sharp points, providing a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide and is bonded to the cloth backing with resin to ensure durability under high heat and pressure. The belt is compatible with various widths and lengths suitable for different belt sanding tools, supporting wide belts for flat finishing and grain patterning on metal sheets, medium-width belts for weld removal and finishing sheets or coils, and narrow belts for grinding, finishing, and accessing right-angle corners. It is used in processes including centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, flat finishing, gate removal, high pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding.
