The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 37" x 75" and features 180 grit alumina zirconium abrasive grain, which provides increased cutting efficiency compared to aluminum oxide belts. It is backed with a heavy, water-resistant polyester backing that endures high-pressure applications and edge work, supporting both wet and dry operations for long life and durability. The belt is recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. To protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys, the belt incorporates a grinding aid that reduces running temperatures. The abrasive is resin-bonded to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia fractures frequently to produce sharp points continuously, delivering a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide, making it suitable for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. The belts are available in various widths and lengths for use on many belt sanding tools; wider belts fit wide belt sanders for flat finishing and smoothing rough edges on metal sheets, medium-width belts are used on backstands for weld removal or feed-thru flat finishers, and narrow belts are used on backstands or file tools for grinding and finishing in tight corners. Typical applications include descaling, flat finishing, high-pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, plate grinding, sheet grinding, and slab grinding.
