The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 52" x 75" with 80 grit alumina zirconium abrasive grain, designed for increased cutting efficiency over aluminum oxide belts. It features a heavy, water-resistant polyester backing that withstands high-pressure applications and edge work, supporting both wet and dry operations for long life. This belt is suitable for aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys, used for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. A grinding aid on the belt helps protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys by reducing running temperatures, while the abrasive is resin-bonded to the backing for durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia fractures frequently to continually produce sharp points, enabling a faster cut-rate, making it ideal for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. The belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit a range of industrial belt sanders, with wider belts used for flat finishing and surface preparation on metal sheets, medium-width belts for weld removal or finishing sheets and coils, and narrow belts suitable for grinding in tight corners or on file tools. Typical applications include descaling, flat finishing, high-pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, plate grinding, sheet grinding, and slab grinding, serving industries such as builders hardware, medical instruments, and metal fabrication.
