The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 1/2" x 12" and features alumina zirconia abrasive grain, which provides increased cutting efficiency compared to aluminum oxide belts. It is backed with a heavy, water-resistant polyester backing that withstands high-pressure applications and edge work, ensuring long life and supporting both wet and dry operations. This belt is recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. A grinding aid on the belt reduces running temperatures to protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel, and cobalt alloys, while the abrasive is firmly bonded to the backing with resin for durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia abrasives frequently fracture to continually produce sharp points and deliver a faster cut rate, making them suitable for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. The belts come in multiple widths and lengths suitable for a variety of belt sanding tools across metalworking applications, including use on wide belt sanders for flat finishing, medium-width belts for weld removal or finishing sheets and coils, and narrow belts for grinding and finishing right-angle corners.
