The 3M™ cloth belt 577F measuring 1/2" x 12" features an alumina zirconia abrasive grain designed for increased cutting efficiency compared to aluminum oxide belts. It is backed with a heavy, water-resistant polyester backing that withstands high-pressure applications and edge work, suitable for both wet and dry operations. The belt is recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. To protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys, the belt incorporates a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures. The abrasive is firmly bonded to the backing with resin to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia fractures frequently to continually produce sharp points, providing a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide and is developed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. These abrasive belts are available in a variety of widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools and are suitable for multiple metalworking applications, including flat finishing, weld removal, and corner finishing.
