3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 1/2" x 18" and features an alumina zirconium abrasive grain that enhances cutting efficiency compared to aluminum oxide belts. It is backed by a heavy, water-resistant polyester that withstands high-pressure applications and edge work, ensuring durability for both wet and dry operations. This cloth belt is recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. A grinding aid is incorporated to protect heat-sensitive alloys like stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys, reducing running temperatures. The resin bond maintains durability under high heat and pressure, while the alumina zirconia grain fractures frequently to produce sharp points for faster cut rates. This synthetic mineral is designed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. The abrasive belts are compatible with various belt sanding tools and come in different widths and lengths. Wider belts are ideal on wide belt sanders for flat finishing, medium-width belts typically work on backstands for weld removal or flat finishers, and narrow belts can be utilized on backstands for grinding and finishing or on file tools for accessing right angle corners.
