The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 3/4" x 20 1/2" and features an alumina zirconia abrasive grain designed for increased cutting efficiency compared to aluminum oxide belts. It is backed with a heavy, water-resistant polyester backing that withstands high-pressure applications and edge work for long life, supporting both wet and dry operations. This belt is recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. To protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys, the belt includes a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, and the abrasive is firmly bonded to the backing with resin to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia fractures frequently, producing sharp points that deliver a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide, making it suitable for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. Available in various widths and lengths, these belts fit most industrial belt sanders, with wider belts used for flat finishing of metal sheets, medium-width belts used on backstands or feed-thru style flat finishers for weld removal and finishing, and narrow belts used on backstands or file tools for right-angle corner finishing.
