The 3M™ cloth belt 577F measures 3/4" x 20 1/2" and features alumina zirconia abrasive grain, which offers increased cutting efficiency compared to aluminum oxide belts. It is backed with a heavy, water-resistant polyester backing designed to withstand high-pressure applications and edge work, supporting both wet and dry operations. This belt is recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. To protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys, the belt includes a grinding aid that reduces running temperatures. The abrasive is firmly bonded to the backing with resin to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia is a synthetic mineral developed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding; it fractures frequently to produce sharp points and deliver a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide. The belts come in various widths and lengths to fit different industrial belt sanding tools, with wider belts used for flat finishing on wide belt sanders, medium-width belts for weld removal or finishing on feed-thru style flat finishers, and narrow belts for grinding, finishing, and accessing right-angle corners on file tools. Typical applications include blending, coating removal, deburring, and high-pressure grinding, serving industries such as builders hardware, medical instruments, metal fabrication, metal implants, plating and polishing, plumbing fixtures, and turbine engineering.
