The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 3/4" x 18" and features an alumina zirconium abrasive grain, which offers increased cutting efficiency compared to aluminum oxide belts. It is constructed with a heavy, water-resistant polyester backing, ensuring durability in high-pressure applications and edge work. This belt is ideal for use on materials such as aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and exotic metal alloys, making it suitable for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. A grinding aid on the belt protects heat-sensitive alloys by reducing running temperatures. The abrasive maintains its durability under high heat and pressure due to a strong resin bond. The alumina zirconia grains fracture frequently to provide sharp points for a faster cut rate, designed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. The belt is compatible with various sanding tools, available in multiple widths and lengths to accommodate diverse metalworking applications.
