The 3M™ cloth belt 577F measures 3/4" x 20 1/2" and features alumina zirconia abrasive grain that offers increased cutting efficiency compared to aluminum oxide belts. It has a heavy, water-resistant polyester backing designed to withstand high-pressure applications and edge work, supporting both wet and dry operations for extended durability. This belt is suitable for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. To protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys, the belt incorporates a grinding aid that reduces running temperatures. The abrasive is resin-bonded to the backing to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia, a synthetic mineral developed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding, fractures frequently to continually produce sharp points for a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide. The abrasive belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools for metalworking applications, with wider belts suited for flat finishing and smoothing rough edges on metal sheets, medium-width belts for weld removal or finish application, and narrow belts for grinding and finishing in tight corners. The belt is commonly used in applications such as blending, coating removal, deburring, and high-pressure grinding, and serves industries including builders hardware, medical instruments, metal fabrication, metal implants, plating and polishing, plumbing fixtures, and turbines.
