The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 3/4" x 20 1/2" and features alumina zirconia abrasive grain, providing increased cutting efficiency compared to aluminum oxide belts. It is backed with a heavy, water-resistant polyester backing designed to withstand high-pressure applications and edge work, ensuring long life and supporting both wet and dry operations. This belt is recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. To protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys, a grinding aid reduces running temperatures. The abrasive is firmly bonded to the backing with resin to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia, a synthetic mineral developed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding, fractures frequently to produce sharp points, delivering a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide. Abrasive belts are available in various widths and lengths, compatible with many industrial belt sanding tools. Wider belts fit wide belt sanders for flat finishing and smoothing rough metal sheet edges, or adding a grain pattern to stainless steel sheets. Medium-width belts are suited for backstands used for weld removal or feed-thru style flat finishers for sheets or coils, while narrow belts work on backstands and file tools for grinding and finishing, especially in tight corners. Applications include blending, coating removal, deburring, and high-pressure grinding.
