The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 2" x 12-37/64" with 24 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. It features a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is firmly bonded to the backing with resin, ensuring durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia grit fractures frequently, producing sharp points for faster cut rates compared to aluminum oxide. As a synthetic mineral, it is developed for heavy stock removal and high pressure grinding. Abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths suitable for different belt sanding tools and metalworking applications. Wider belts fit wide belt sanders for flat finishing and smoothing rough-cut metal sheet edges or adding grain patterns to stainless steel sheets. Medium-width belts are typically used on backstands for weld removal or on feed-thru flat finishers to finish sheets or coils, while narrow belts are used on backstands for grinding and finishing or on file tools to access right-angle corners.
