The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 2" x 12-37/64" and features 50 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt includes a grinding aid that reduces running temperatures to protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys, while the abrasive is firmly bonded to a cloth backing with resin to ensure durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia abrasive fractures continuously to create sharp points, delivering a faster cut rate compared to aluminum oxide and is specifically developed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. These abrasive belts are available in various widths and lengths to accommodate different belt sanding tools and metalworking applications. Wider belts suit wide belt sanders for flat finishing and smoothing rough metal sheet edges or adding grain patterns, medium-width belts are typically used on backstands or feed-thru flat finishers for weld removal and sheet finishing, and narrow belts work on backstands or file tools to access right-angle corners. This product is used for applications such as setting the grain and producing a straight-line brushed finish, primarily in the metal fabrication industry.
