The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 2 inches by 132 inches and features 120 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt includes a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel, and cobalt alloys. The alumina zirconia abrasive fractures frequently to continually produce sharp points, enabling a faster cut-rate compared to aluminum oxide. The abrasive is firmly bonded to the cloth backing with resin to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Designed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding, these abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths to fit industrial belt sanders, ranging from wide belts for flat finishing and smoothing metal sheets to narrow belts for accessing right-angle corners on backstands and file tools. Applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, high-pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding.
