The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 2" x 132" with 40 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt features a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel, and cobalt alloys. The alumina zirconia abrasive, a synthetic mineral, fractures frequently to continually produce sharp points, resulting in a faster cut-rate than aluminum oxide, and is developed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. The abrasive is firmly bonded to a resin backing to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. The belts come in various widths and lengths to fit a range of industrial belt sanders: wider belts for wide belt sanders used in flat finishing or grain pattern addition, medium-width belts for backstand weld removal or feed-thru flat finishing, and narrow belts for backstand grinding or file tools to access right-angle corners. Typical applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, high-pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding.
