The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 2 inches by 72 inches and features 50 grit alumina zirconium abrasive designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt includes a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is resin-bonded to the cloth backing for durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia fractures frequently to continually produce sharp points, providing a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide. This synthetic mineral is developed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. Available in various widths and lengths, these belts fit most industrial belt sanders, with wider belts suited for wide belt sanders to smooth rough cut edges or add grain patterns to metal sheets, medium-width belts for backstands or feed-thru flat finishers, and narrow belts for grinding and finishing in tight corners or on file tools. Applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, flat finishing, gate removal, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding.
