The 3M™ cloth belt 577F measures 2" x 72" with a 40 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt features a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures on heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The alumina zirconia abrasive is firmly bonded to the resin-backed cloth for durability under high heat and pressure, and fractures frequently to produce sharp points that deliver a faster cut rate compared to aluminum oxide. Developed as a synthetic mineral for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding, these belts come in various widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools and metalworking applications. Wide belts are suited for wide belt sanders to smooth rough cut edges or add grain patterns to stainless steel sheets, medium-width belts are commonly used on backstands or feed-thru flat finishers for weld removal or finishing sheets and coils, and narrow belts are ideal for backstands or file tools to access right angle corners. Typical applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate and parting line removal, high pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding.
