The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 2" x 72" with 80 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. It features a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is resin-bonded to the backing to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia fractures frequently, continuously producing sharp points for faster cut rates than aluminum oxide. This synthetic mineral is developed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. The belts come in various widths and lengths for use on different belt sanding tools suited to diverse metalworking applications. Wider belts are suitable for wide belt sanders used in flat finishing, smoothing rough cut edges, or adding a grain pattern to stainless steel sheets. Medium-width belts are typically used on backstands for weld removal or feed-thru flat finishers for finishing sheets or coils, while narrow belts can be used on backstands for grinding and finishing or on file tools to reach right-angle corners. Applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, high pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding.
