The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 3" x 132" and features 80 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, specifically designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt includes a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is firmly bonded to the resin-backed cloth to ensure durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia, a synthetic mineral that frequently fractures to produce sharp points, delivers a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide and is developed for heavy stock removal and high pressure grinding. The abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools and applications, with wider belts used for flat finishing and grain patterning, medium-width belts for weld removal and finishing on sheets or coils, and narrow belts for grinding and finishing in right-angle corners. Typical applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, high pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding.
