The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 3" x 168" with 36 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys in applications such as dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt includes a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures when working with heat-sensitive alloys like stainless steel, nickel, and cobalt alloys. The alumina zirconia abrasive fractures continuously to create sharp points, enabling a faster cut-rate compared to aluminum oxide, and is bonded to a cloth backing with resin to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. These abrasive belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit a range of industrial belt sanders; wider belts are used on wide belt sanders for flat finishing and adding grain patterns to metal sheets, medium-width belts are suited for backstands or feed-thru flat finishers for weld removal and finishing sheets or coils, while narrow belts are ideal for backstands and file tools to access right-angle corners. Typical applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, flat finishing, gate removal, high pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding. The belt is used across industries such as builders hardware, medical instruments, metal fabrication, metal implants, plating and polishing, plumbing fixtures, and turbine engines.
