The 3M™ 60440257248 cloth belt 577F measures 4" x 132" and features 120 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt includes a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures when used on heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The alumina zirconia abrasive is firmly bonded to the cloth backing with resin to maintain durability under high heat and pressure, and it fractures frequently to produce sharp points that ensure a faster cut rate compared to aluminum oxide. Designed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding, these abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths suitable for many industrial belt sanders. Wide belts are used with wide belt sanders for flat finishing or grain pattern addition on stainless steel sheets, medium-width belts are applied on backstands for weld removal or feed-thru flat finishers for finishing sheets or coils, and narrow belts are used on backstands or file tools for grinding, finishing, and accessing right-angle corners. Applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, high pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding, serving industries such as builders hardware, medical instruments, metal fabrication, metal implants, plating and polishing, plumbing fixtures, and turbine engines.
