The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 6" x 202" and features 60 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. This belt includes a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures when working with heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is resin-bonded to the cloth backing to ensure durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia is a synthetic mineral designed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding, as it fractures frequently to produce sharp points for a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide. The belts are available in various widths and lengths, suitable for use with different belt sanding tools across several metalworking applications. Wide belts fit wide belt sanders for flat finishing to smooth rough metal sheet edges or add a grain pattern to stainless steel sheets, medium-width belts are used on backstands or feed-thru flat finishers for weld removal and surface finishing, while narrow belts serve on backstands or file tools to access right-angle corners for finishing.
