The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 8-1/4" x 100" and features 50 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys in dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. A grinding aid on the belt reduces running temperatures to protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is resin-bonded to the cloth backing, enhancing durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia, a synthetic mineral developed for heavy stock removal and high pressure grinding, fractures frequently to continually produce sharp points and deliver a faster cut rate compared to aluminum oxide. Available in various widths and lengths, the belts fit different industrial belt sanders; wider belts are suited for wide belt sanders to smooth rough cut edges or add grain patterns to stainless steel sheets, medium-width belts are used on backstand or feed-thru style flat finishers for weld removal and finishing sheets or coils, and narrow belts are applied on backstands or file tools to access right angle corners for finishing. Applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, high pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding, serving industries such as builders hardware, medical instruments, metal fabrication, metal implants, plating and polishing, plumbing fixtures, and turbine engines.
