The 3M™ cloth belt 577F is a 1/2" x 18" abrasive belt featuring alumina zirconia abrasive grain designed for increased cutting efficiency compared to aluminum oxide belts. It is backed with a heavy, water-resistant polyester backing that withstands high-pressure applications and edge work, supporting both wet and dry operations. Recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys, this belt is suitable for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. To protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys, the belt includes a grinding aid that reduces running temperatures. The resin firmly bonds the abrasive to the backing, maintaining durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia abrasives frequently fracture to continually produce sharp points, delivering a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide, making them ideal for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. Available in various widths and lengths, these belts fit a broad range of industrial belt sanders, with wider belts used for flat finishing and smoothing edges on metal sheets, medium-width belts used on backstands or feed-thru finishers for weld removal and finishing sheets or coils, and narrow belts suited for grinding and finishing in corners or right angles.
