The 3M™ cloth belt 577F measures 1/2" x 24" and features alumina zirconia abrasive grain, which offers increased cutting efficiency over aluminum oxide belts. It is backed with a heavy, water-resistant polyester backing designed to withstand high-pressure applications and edge work, supporting both wet and dry operations for long-lasting durability. This belt is recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. To protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys, the belt incorporates a grinding aid that reduces running temperatures. The abrasive is firmly bonded to the backing with resin to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia fractures frequently to continually produce sharp points, resulting in a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide, and was developed specifically for heavy stock removal and high pressure grinding. The belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools used in metalworking applications, with wider belts suited for wide belt sanders to smooth or add grain patterns to metal sheets, medium-width belts for weld removal or flat finishing on sheets or coils, and narrow belts for grinding, finishing, or accessing right angle corners.
