The 3M™ cloth belt 577F measures 1/2" x 24" and features alumina zirconia abrasive grain, which offers increased cutting efficiency compared to aluminum oxide belts. It is backed with a heavy, water-resistant polyester backing that withstands high-pressure applications and edge work, ensuring durability and long life for both wet and dry operations. This belt is recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for tasks such as dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. A grinding aid on the belt reduces running temperatures to protect heat-sensitive alloys like stainless steel, nickel, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is resin-bonded to the backing to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia fractures frequently to produce sharp points for faster cut rates, making it suitable for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. The belts come in various widths and lengths to fit a wide range of industrial belt sanding tools, with wider belts used for wide belt sanders suited for flat finishing and creating grain patterns on stainless steel sheets, medium-width belts for backstands and feed-thru flat finishers, and narrow belts for backstands and file tools accessing right-angle corners.
